Meet The Team
Jeff Ruth
CEO, Owner
J. Ruth Tax Service was born in 2006, initially as a hobby, and a way for Jeff to help friends and family with their personal tax returns. As demand grew for affordable tax services, so did his business. With a passion for helping others, Jeff is committed to offering fair pricing while using his expertise to maximize client refunds. His strong analytical skills, professionalism, and empathetic approach make him a trusted tax professional year after year. Outside of tax season, Jeff has built a successful corporate career in procurement, spending over 20 years working for a large Canadian retailer. When he’s not crunching numbers, Jeff can be found testing out new recipes (vegan cheesecake, anyone?), hitting the nearest tennis court, or tackling the latest home reno project inspired by his partner Krysta’s Pinterest board.


Krysta Mateff
Marketing Manager
With over 10 years of experience in marketing, Krysta is the creative force behind J. Ruth Tax Service’s brand. As Marketing Manager, she handles everything from social media and website management to overall brand design, ensuring our presence is as engaging as it is professional. She has a knack for making taxes fun with quirky and creative Facebook posts, turning an often-dreaded topic into something approachable and even entertaining. Beyond marketing, Krysta is Jeff’s partner in all thing’s life and business. When she’s not strategizing new ways to connect with clients, you’ll find her cooking up vegetarian delights, staying active outdoors, or binge-watching the latest true crime documentaries.
Helga Ruth
Administrative Assistant
Throughout a long-standing career in commercial insurance, Helga built her reputation on efficiency, dedication, and a keen attention to detail. Affectionately referred to as Helga “Hufflepuff”, she is known for her loyalty and hardworking nature, bringing unmatched precision and savvy keyboarding skills to J. Ruth Tax Service. Helga always ensures we have seamless client entries and accurate scheduling, streamlining JRTS day-to-day. Though technically retired, Helga is currently “on loan” to help her son, Jeff, grow his dream of running a tax business. When she’s not being an administrative all-star, Helga enjoys retirement life with her husband, Doug - baking the world’s best cheesecake and rescuing houseplants from the brink of disaster.
